Launched as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2019, Musicity commissioned musicians and sound artists to create 15 site specific audio tracks for locations along the railway viaduct in Bankside, London Bridge, and Bermondsey, a structure which has been part of the neighbourhoods’ heritage for over 150 years.

Musicity, founded in 2010 by BBC Radio 3 Late Junction presenter and radio producer Nick Luscombe, invites musicians and recording artists to compose audio tracks in response to buildings and spaces in locations around the world. It encourages audiences to venture out and explore cities, and to experience the urban environment in new and unexpected ways.

Each track is geo-tagged to a different location so it can only be listened to in the space which inspired it, these include: Old Union Yard Arches, Ewer Street, Borough Market, Southwark Cathedral, Bermondsey Street Tunnel, London Bridge Station, Vinegar Yard and The Biscuit Factory. During the pandemic, the tracks have been made accessible online so people can experience the music while not physically in the areas.

Participating artists include multi-instrumentalist Erland Cooper; London-based French composer, artist and musician Lola de la Mata; electro-acoustic composer Thomas Stone; ethereal vocalist Szjerdene; live Jungle and Drum & Bass mash-up artist Suitman Jungle; and Japanese-born, classically trained violinist and composer Chihiro Ono.

The tracks will be accessible for streaming via the Musicity smartphone web app.
