Friends Roundup #1

Some 65 people from the local business and residential communities in Bankside, London Bridge, Bermondsey and Elephant and Castle attended the inaugural meeting of the Friends of the Low Line on 1 May 2019 on Scoresby Street.

Local resident, David Stephens, who originally coined the idea of the Low Line in an ideas competition hosted by the Landscape Institute in 2012, called ‘A Highline for London’, gave a keynote presentation of how his idea has evolved over his years of living in Bankside and exploring the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Attendees were able to find out more about how the Low Line project has evolved since then, and how is currently being steered by a partnership of local agencies including Better Bankside, Team London Bridge, Blue Bermondsey, the Arch Company and Southwark Council. Among the information exhibited was a preview of the emerging website, information about the development pipeline along and adjacent to the rail viaduct, and information about an international design competition about to be launched with a focus on developing a green vision for the Low Line.
